How to choose a packaging design and printing partner
Design studios and printers often work in isolation, and the gap between them is where cost, delay and colour problems appear. Here is what to check before you commit.

Can they take a concept all the way to a production-ready dieline?
A beautiful mock-up is not a production file. Ask to see a dieline with bleed, fold and glue allowances, and confirm who is accountable if the artwork fails on the machine. A single partner responsible for both design and production removes that argument entirely.
Which print process fits your volume?
Offset, flexo, digital and screen each have a different economic sweet spot. A partner who recommends the same process for every job is optimising for their own equipment, not your cost per unit. Ask why a process is being proposed for your specific quantity and substrate.
How is colour controlled between batches?
Brand colour drifting between print runs is one of the most common complaints in packaging. Ask how shades are matched, whether physical proofs are provided, and what happens if a repeat order does not match the approved sample.
What does sampling and approval look like?
Clarify how many rounds of revision are included, whether a physical sample is produced before the full run, and how long approval adds to the timeline. Surprises here are what push a launch date.
Do they understand your compliance requirements?
Food, agri-input, chemical and export packaging each carry mandatory declarations, symbols and language requirements. A partner familiar with your sector will raise these before artwork, not after printing.
Can they show relevant work?
Ask for examples in your category and at your scale. Relevant, verifiable work matters far more than a long client list.
